"SINAI ON THE HILL" INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Task Description :

Washington DC

A Sinai Intern’s job will depend upon the office of the senator/congressman he/she is working with. Often it will require a significant amount of administrative work- interns are depended upon to help run the mail program, answer phones and run the front office.  However, in addition to the administrative work, the interns are sent out to legislative briefings, committee hearings, and assigned projects every week.  Interns are encouraged to be proactive as well - by looking at the senator/congressman's schedule to see which meetings they would like to sit in on, or looking at the committee hearing schedule for the week to see what hearings or briefings look interesting to them. Often, at some point in the program all the interns are invited to have lunch or a similar informal get-together with the senator/congressman. The Sinai-on-the-Hill program is designed to help foster young jewish leadership initiatives as part of a broader perspective. PART OF THIS PROGRAM includes enrollment at Sinai Retreats (see Student Application on the application page) for one session during the summer. At Sinai Retreats you will learn about Judaism's perspective on proper values and ethics needed for jewish leadership as well as many other fascinating subjects.

Schedule of Internships :

Most internships run between 4-6 weeks depending on the congressional office.

There are  2 possible time slots available :

  1. The internship begins soon after the conclusion of the school term - usually the third week in May and runs through June,

    or

  2. The internship begins at the start of July and runs through mid August.

Most offices will be flexible with the starting and ending dates.

Please let us know which time slot you would prefer.

Payment/Room and Board :

The internship experience is highly competitive and the congressional offices do not provide room, board or base pay. However we will make every attempt to assist you in your search for appropriate accommodations.
